It’s all around us, in our
carpets, on our tile floors, nestled in the fibers of our furniture
& always present in the air. In Arizona we battle the issue daily-
largely due to the fact that we live in a desert environment. When’s
the last time you looked at the ceiling fans? A dirty fan circulates
soil through the air. Dirt is the #1 ENEMY for all motors and moving
parts of any machinery.
Carpets and rugs act like a filter trapping soils, gases, pollutants,
as well as both animal and human dander in the fibers. We constantly
track it in and deposit in our homes. Dirt on the Moh hardness scale
(universal scale used to distinguish minerals hardness) tops the chart
at a “10”, just like a girl’s best friend, the diamond.
Talk about BLING!! Carpet fibers are designed to hide the soil yet its
presence continues to scratch the fibers, etching them with every step.
The most important factor to keeping those carpet fibers looking “NEW”
is to vacuum frequently!!
Over 75% of all soil can be removed from carpets by dry vacuuming. Remember
the day at the beach – (ok work with me, after all we are in the
desert) sand can be shaken out of the dry bathing suits but once we
get it wet the sand is a bit tougher to remove from the fibers. Using
door mats and keeping the front entrance to our homes and offices clean
will reduce the amount of particles brought inside.
Higher traffic areas need more attention to remove the ground in soil.
Carpet manufactures recommend 3 to 5 slow passes to remove as much soil
as possible. In order to get the most out of our time and effort –
it’s IMPORTANT to check our vacuum regularly. Vacuum cleaners
need to be serviced and have regular check ups just like the engines
of our cars. Check vacuum bags and replace them once they become 1⁄2
to 3⁄4 full to get the optimum air flow. Belts often become stretched
and ripped, in turn not being able to run at peak performance. For vacuum
